EPODE Canada is the latest regional initiative of the EPODE International Network.
EPODE Canada will support and help upscale Canadian healthy active living programmes aimed at reducing the prevalence of childhood obesity. Via workshops, coaching and mentoring, EPODE Canada will encourage adoption of the four pillars of the EPODE methodology as well as create the first ever network of Canadian healthy active living programmes.
Today, EPODE Canada, along with the EIN are working to transfer the EPODE methodology and implement Ontario’s childhood obesity prevention program, the Healthy Kids Community Challenge. This exciting program will roll out in 45 communities across Ontario this spring
The EPODE International Network (EIN), the world’s largest network of childhood obesity prevention the EIN includes 42 member programs in 29 countries. In 2014, the EIN established EPODE Canada following similar regional initiatives in Europe, Asia Pacific including Australia and New Zealand as well as Latin America including Mexico.
EPODE Canada’s mission is to make a significant contribution to the reduction in childhood obesity among Canadian children by:
- Creating awareness for the EPODE Methodology
- Training and mentoring of existing community-based programs
- Encouraging new community-based programs to adopt the EPODE methodology
- Increasing knowledge of key pillars of the EPODE methodology: Multi-stakeholders, Social Marketing, Private Public Partnerships, Political commitment, Evaluation
- Promoting global best practices for community-based programs
- Evaluating progress via measuring health outcomes
- Encouraging stakeholder partners
- Seeking and attaining sustainable funding for program enhancements
Dennis EDELL – Managing Director, EPODE Canada
Dennis is an expert in behaviour change marketing and integrated social marketing. As Ottawa chapter president of the American Marketing Association, he oversaw the establishment of North America’s first Social Marketing AMA chapter. Dennis has led social marketing/behaviour strategy and campaigns in both Canada and the U.S. that have successfully changed health, environment, safety and energy conservation behaviours. He has seen his work presented at social marketing forums and conferences in Canada, the U.S., Ireland and Australia. Dennis was founder of Leading Social Change, Canada’s leading social marketing conference and on the organizing committee for the 2013 World Social Marketing Conference, Toronto. He is a board member of the Institute of Communications Agencies, Good Foot Delivery, Project Sun Block and the Ontario Council of Trout Unlimited Canada. He is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania where he completed studies in consumer and industrial marketing at the Wharton School.
